Dr. John Patrick Garrett, former superintendent of MVTHS, passed away on Saturday, December 14, 2019. 

Garrett was born on May 5, 1942, in Aurora, IL to parents John and Twila Garret.

Prior to his career at MV, Garrett served in the Vietnam war from 1966 to 1970 as a lieutenant of the USS Washburn.  

Proceeding his service in the military, Garrett attended SIUC and earned his PhD educational administration. He began his career at MVTHS in 1970 and served in many roles throughout his time here, including science teacher, dean of students, superintendent’s assistant, principal, and superintendent, from 1988 to 2001. Dr. Garrett also served as a member of the MV Board of Education.

Garrett’s funeral service was held on December 16 at Riggin-Pillatsch & Burke Funeral Home, in Carterville, IL.
