The original date for the PSAT was set. October, 17, 2023. This was postponed to October the 30th, due to issues MV is facing with the internet.
Class of ´25 student, Emily Cotton stated that she is ¨pretty excited because I wasn’t prepared¨ when asked how she feels about the postponement of the PSAT.
While Class of ´25 student, Aaliyah Hubbard said that she was ¨disappointed¨ about this postponement.
Different students view the necessity of this test very differently. When asked if they feel the PSAT and SAT are needed, Cotton added, ¨I feel that it is necessary, but it should not be held as important as it is to colleges¨
While Hubbard stated, ¨Yes, I think it is important because it gives us test opportunities to help us in life.¨
Even if students do have varying views on the necessity of the test, all students still have to take it. Some students have very different preparation tactics.
When asked if they have been studying for the PSAT, Class of ´25 student Hunter Allen stated, ¨No, not actively. “ However Cotton added, ¨Yes, I have been using CollegeBoard and Khan Academy for studying.¨
Even with some students preparing for the PSAT, there is a brand new curveball that is being thrown to all Class of ´25 students.
The PSAT this year is trying something brand new, it is going to be online instead of on paper for the first time ever.
When asked about their opinions on this new change Class of ´25 student Lillie Myers added, ¨I hate it.¨ Allen stated, ¨I am used to filling in bubbles on paper, online might be more difficult.¨
Because the PSAT is online, it is anticipated that it will take up much less time than prior years.
Because of the time being cut down, I asked students what their plans were right after the test. All students I interviewed had one thing in common, sleeping.
Myers added, ¨I am going to go get food and then take a big fat nap.¨ Hubbard said she is ¨Going to go home and then sleep.¨
Finally, PSAT studying can be a time of great stress for many students and families at MV. While for others it may not cause them anxiety at all.
Allen said, ¨It doesn’t really cause me stress, because it doesn’t matter that much.¨
While Myers stated, ¨It causes a lot of stress, an 11 on a scale of 1-10.
These new postponements and changes this season can cause a lot of stress and hard work for students.
Good luck junior students!
