Any girl who is not involved in a winter sport and plans to try out for softball should begin attending workouts. They will be held every Tuesday and Thursday from 6-8 in the turf room.


Any girl interested in running track and field should come to conditioning after school. Bring workout clothes for indoors and outdoors. Meet in the northwest area of the gym lobby.


The chess team practices Mondays and Wednesdays from 3:30 to 5:30.


A current Harvard University student will be at MVTHS tomorrow during 3rd period to discuss the application process and the cost of attending Harvard.  Students interested in attending must sign-up in the Student Services Office. All grade levels are welcome and attendees must have passed ALL classes during 1st semester.


Hi-Tri members: Please note the day for our meeting is changed. We will have a Hi-Tri meeting after school on Wednesday in Ms. Black’s room, C201. Check google classroom for items to be discussed.


Attention FFA members: Our January meeting will be held tonight at 5:30 pm in 114D and the FFA Alumni meeting will be in room 112D. We will eat at 5:15 pm. Sign up in the agriculture room if you plan on attending the meeting. Please invite your parents to come to the Alumni meeting.


Attention FFA members: Please sign up in the agriculture rooms today if you would like to attend the Southern Illinois University Basketball Game on January 23.


If you are a junior interested in planning prom and have not joined the Prom Google classroom, see Mrs. Davis in C212 ASAP to get the code. There will be a meeting for any juniors interested in planning prom after school tomorrow in C212.  If you want to help plan prom, please try to attend.


Youth and Government Members:  Please email a corrected copy of bills, briefs, Lobbyist Agendas, or LA Proposals to Ms. Pilson no later than Wednesday.   Final dues payments are also due this week.


The annual Brian Hodge Horror Story Contest deadline is midnight, January 31.  Your story should be of the horror genre, no longer than 8,000 words, and typed. Submissions should be submitted through the Brian Hodge Horror Story Google Classroom. To get the classroom code, email Mr. Mays at [email protected]. 


The Balfour representative will be on campus on January 23 to distribute class rings and some of the senior items. Seniors – if you have not ordered a cap and gown this will be your LAST CHANCE to order without a late fee.


FBLA had a great day at the Southern Area Conference held at SIU-C on Thursday, January 10th. Daniel Song was elected for a 2nd term as Southern Area President & Max Zinzilieta was elected as the Southern Area Vice President for the 2019-2020 year. MVTHS walked away with many awards as follows: 1ST PLACE WINNERS: American Enterprise Project: Celia Beaty, Gatlin Miller, & Daniel Song; Broadcast Journalism: Joey Spadaccini & Kaijah Weller; Impromptu Speaking: Minh Nguyen; Job Interview: Jon Wilson, and Word Processing: Nathan Wilkie. 2ND PLACE WINNERS: Broadcast Journalism: Holly Maher, Gatlin Miller, & Cameron Steele; Computer Problem Solving: Ryan Hill; Website Design: Evan Leake & Jayla Wilford. 3RD PLACE WINNERS: Agribusiness: Zain Radtke; Emerging Business Issues: Quan Nguyen & Landon Simpson; Impromptu Speaking: Loralei Klockenga; Publication Design: Jill Launay & Sahar Rashid; and Social Media Campaign: Abby Lorenz.
