Peck ponders the writer’s life

Emmie Peck, Columnist

A lot of people ask me why I write. They ask me what I get out of it. Those people say they don’t understand what is so interesting and fun about writing. I never know what exactly to say to them because it’s hard to explain, but I am going to try to explain why I write in this column.

I have been writing since a very young age. I’d say since I was about eight years old when I started. Writing has been something I have done to get away from everything. It’s a means of escaping into entirely new worlds and express myself. It is a way to create new worlds and live there for a while.

To me, writing is a way to get everything off my chest and out of my head. There is always a lot going on in my head and that’s why I talk a lot. But writing is a way to express myself in a beautiful way.

I write short stories, poetry, and songs. I mostly write poetry. Most of the poetry I write doesn’t even get written down. Most of what I write stays in my brain because I forget it before I can write it down or I can’t figure out how to write it down right. So, most of my poetry lives in the expanse of my mind.

I love writing because words are the most powerful thing there is. Anyone can change the world with just one word. Then, with stories, you can create a whole world with words. That is the magic of writing: creating new, wonderful worlds for people to escape to whenever they need to.

I like writing because I love hearing and seeing people’s reactions and how what I wrote has impacted them.

Writing is just something that brings me joy. The small amount of happiness I feel in a day is usually from writing. Writing is a way to let everything go. It gives me something to do and makes me feel like I am doing something that can help people.

That is basically what writing is to me. It is difficult to explain exactly why I write and exactly what I get out of writing, but that is basically all of it.

Have a wonderful day, MV!
