HOSA builds interest in future medical careers

This year marks Ms. Tammy Martin’s 15th year being in charge of Health Occupations Students of America, also known as HOSA.

HOSA is an organization for those wanting to go into the medical field, but even if someone isn’t, they can still join.

According to Jude Erasmus, ‘23, “ HOSA has helped me be more confident and more organized.”

Erasmus serves as the president of this chapter, as well as the Illinois State HOSA President. He is in charge of “conducting meetings, managing officers and memberships, as well as helping plan events.”

“This year, I’m hoping for more job shadowing opportunities,” Ms. Martin stated.

The next meeting is after the Pink Out game, with a date to be determined.

It’s not too late to join, provided the dues get paid by mid-October.

HOSA has a competitive side. It’s not just talking and learning about healthcare.

They participate in events with the categories of Health Science, Health Professionals, Emergency Preparedness, Leadership, and Teamwork.

“HOSA is a good way to learn more about nursing and a better way to get involved with the school,” stated Matilyn Phillipi, ‘25. This is her 2nd year involved with HOSA.

“Join HOSA. Guys, join HOSA,” concluded Erasmus.
