The Lottery Press Release
November 29, 2022
MVTHS’s competitive Speech & Acting Team is proud to present its interpretation of “The Lottery,” dramatized by Brainerd Duffield (based on the short story by Shirley Jackson) at Schweinfurth Theater.
With its shattering last scene, this unusual play captures the story that has become an internationally known classic. Like the story, the play starts as people assemble for the lottery. What family will it be this time? Which member? Only gradually do we begin to suspect the nature of the lottery as the play builds swiftly to its crucial and moving climax. The tension and thrill of the play are built into its very structure.
While it is being shown during the school day to students selected randomly through a lottery of its own, it is also available to the public! Seating in our FIRST-EVER BLACK BOX THEATER EXPERIENCE is extremely limited, so get your tickets now! Showtimes are Thursday, December 1st, and Friday, December 2nd at 6:30 pm and 8 pm each evening. The run time is roughly 25 minutes. All tickets are $5 and can be purchased at the door or reserved with the link below. Contact Raquel Bliffen at [email protected] with questions.
Due to the graphic nature of this show, viewer discretion is advised. Suggested audience age: 13+.
