On May 1, MV hosted the Mt. Vernon Invite of eight Track & Field teams to come and compete.
MV placed first in incredible fashion, scoring 198 total points, those points being more than 100 than the second place Salem Wildcats.
“Our team did amazing, we won the meet by 100+ points and had lots of PRs set that day,” stated Fischer Davis, ‘23.
Some personal records that were set during this meet were Caedmon Cook ‘24 in the two mile and Judd Hicks with a time of 50.16, sitting him at #1 in sectional and #8 in the state.
“I feel that our team is coming together to finish what we started from our beginning goal for the season. With all the PRs and successful races we’ve had, I see us having an opportunity to bring back the Conference Championship,” said Anthony Lash ‘23.
Lash wasn’t only giving credit to his teammates, as he and Jacob Morrison ‘23 went #1 and #2 in the 100 and 200 meter races.
“Our overall performance as a team at the meet was really good, we had a lot of first places and good times and distances. We have a lot of young guys that have proved that they can keep up with the older guys and they have a big future ahead of them,” said Morrison
“Working with all the staff and coaches, I’ve learned a better work ethic and I also learned that most days won’t be good days, but if you stay for the bad days the good days will be great ones in the name of God,” stated Lash.
Morrison also went out for Long Jump, placing first in the process.
“My overall performance was good. I had a season best jump of 22’3 and got first place, I also had a season best in the 100m of 11.19, and our 4×100 ran the 2nd fastest time in school history. All of this gives us a good mindset going into the conference meet,” added Morrison.
The MV Invite saw a myriad of wins and personal records set, and as the team goes into its final stretch of the season, we wish them luck.
