When the delicate flakes of snow fall from the ash-coloured sky, one can tell that winter is approaching. The ever-so chilling wind will nip at the soft flesh of those uncovered, and the snow-covered paths will crunch and sparkle like sugar underfoot. Each leaf is covered with a delicate layer of crystal-like ice, which glitters when the sun hits it just right. Like a blank canvas, the snow covers every crevice of the painting we call life.
Even with the icy-cold winter shivering the bones of individuals, warmth isn’t too far away. The warm glows of lights emerging from nearby stores will instantly fill one with a sense of comfort and anticipation. The soft, golden hues cast a soothing spell, contrasting beautifully with the cold darkness that surrounds one. It’s inviting warmth that spills from its windows. As the lights dance playfully, casting intricate shadows on the snow-covered pavement. The seasonal decorations in the windows will only brighten the feeling of festive nature in individuals. This bitter-cold, intermixed with the golden radiance of the lights create a feeling not replicated by any other means. The festive music playing in the background will accentuate the already comforting atmosphere, bringing a feeling of togetherness along with it. That, paired with the scent of carefully decorated treats lingers in the air, will build anticipation in one’s body.
Far away from the hustle and bustle of civilization, a much calmer and colder winter can be found in the depths of the animal kingdom. As the winter wind whispers through the barren branches, carrying the first delicate flakes of snow, they begin their graceful descent from the heavens above. Each snowflake, a unique masterpiece in its own right, dances through the air with an ethereal elegance. Soft plumes of snow gently cover the once rough bark on the trees, changing the once rugged surface into a blank canvas. Now the trees stand tall and proud, knowing that they bear the weight of winter’s gift. Even going so far as to give up their bountiful, emerald-green leaves. Leaving them to shrivel and die, only to be carried by the wind, gently scraping across the frigid pathway in their wake.
It is unreal to think that individuals despise this wondrous season, this change in pace is one much needed in the stress of everyday life. How can one appreciate the light and warmth, if it were to be constantly beaming down all year round. Eventually, the summer would become monotonous, and individuals would be wishing for a break. Enjoy what you have, when you have it, and succumb to the winter as it is presented. The light and warmth cannot be without dark and cold.
