MV’s FCA meets weekly at 7:30 a.m. and welcomes all students interested in joining the organization.
“If anyone wants to get involved in FCA, all they have to do is show up on Wednesday mornings at 7:30 in Mrs. Heinzmann’s room, [B112]. We’re always looking for more people to join us and it’s just as simple as being here,” stated Student Leader Caedmon Cook, ‘24.
Becoming a student leader not only comes with a position of power in spreading the Good Word but also lots of responsibility and planning.
“I enjoy being a student leader, but at the same time, it comes with a lot of responsibility. We are the ones who are responsible for leading the other members in our huddle and we set a standard of how we are perceived through other students’ eyes,” said Elias Mullinax, ‘25.
“Being a student leader gives me a sense of pride to know that I am considered a teacher and mentor to my peers,” described Trey Mygatt, ‘24.
Similar to many organizations on campus, FCA brings much responsibility to their members in many different ways, along with fun trips, and opportunities to have a future in pastoral duties.
“FCA has helped me remember to not only stay focused on my schoolwork but to also stay focused on God. Having those Wednesday morning studies help me to remember how I need to go about my school life and relationship with God,” stated Mullinax, “FCA has really had an impact on who I am today because of a lot of the Bible studies we’ve had,” Mullinax added.
“FCA has given me many connections and opportunities over the years and has made me into the student I am today,” described Mygatt.
Though FCA is student-led, they have many sponsors such as Mr. Robert Grider, Mrs. Tara Heinzmann, and Area Representative Britt Fullerton, who goes all over the Southern Illinois area, speaking about FCA.
“Being the Area Representative for FCA is honestly the best job I could’ve asked for. God has allowed me the opportunity to build relationships with the coaches and athletes of MV and helped them grow in their faith. For that I am truly humbled and grateful,” commented Fullerton.
FCA is not only active in MV. That’s shown by Fullerton, who also reports on what other high schools and even middle schools are currently doing in their organizations across the region.
With other FCA’s benign active in the area, it’s evident that there will be slight changes and separate histories to the organization at MV.
“MV is different because just three short years ago, the ministry of FCA didn’t exist on the MV campus. So it’s been amazing getting to see the ministry come back to the campus, but also seeing the ministry strive on this campus,” said Fullerton.
FCA has been described as a life-changing experience for those involved, for sponsors, it’s changed their lives by showing students the word of God, and for students, it’s a way to worship God in a place they have to go to every day anyway.
“Working in FCA has truly challenged me. What most people don’t know is that my ministry is only made possible by financial support from my donors. So I have had to fully trust God to supply the needs for my ministry with FCA to grow,” asserted Fullerton.
“Being in a position to lead devotionals has been a huge way of holding myself accountable for my actions in front of others and allows me truly keep in mind how I can affect others in a positive way,” commented Cook.
FCA’s attendance has increased so much, that they have moved from Mr. Robert Grider’s room in Freshman Academy to Mrs. Heinzmann’s in B112, also the home of CNA.
Even with this spike in attendance, FCA is always looking to increase even more.
“I have had nothing but good experiences with FCA and I think that it truly is one of the easiest organizations to get involved with. Simply showing up to our huddles is where you can get started and get involved,” expressed Mullinax.
