Brandon Lake, a popular Christian music artist, released his 4th studio album recently, titled, Coat of Many Colors while attending his concert. He dropped the album on October 20th. I found out about this album during one of his concerts, during the “Summer Worship Nights” tour. I saw him perform live in Indianapolis at the Gainbridge Fieldhouse, where he informed us that he would be dropping a new album in a few very short weeks.
Unlike his album, HELP! released in 2022, which was based on mental health, Lake explains that this album is a patchwork of the trials, tribulations, and experiences that have made him the man he is today. Lake said, “This coat represents the seasons of my life, reminding me of all the amazing things God’s done for me.” Just as he explains, we are all made up of the pits and palaces we have walked through in life, and it is a beautiful testimony of life.
One song on the album, “Tear off the Roof” is featured in the Netflix series “The Chosen,” a historical drama based on the life of Jesus, along with those who knew him.
Brandon explained that there was a specific book in the Bible that inspired him to write the album. Within the story of Joseph, we read that he had gone through many things in his life, and his only option was to trust his dreams, and to be faithful to God. Lake was encouraged to create an album that highlighted the story, to bring more attention to that particular message.
I found that the album was very powerful and encouraging. It includes an informative, and inspiring story, which listeners will find to be interesting. It is one of my favorite albums, and it contains some of my favorite songs.
