Many of you might not know me. I’m Alex Kiefer, and I love baseball. I play catcher in the MV Rams baseball program. Many other baseball players couldn’t play the catcher position because of the wear and tear on your body. The position takes heart and great determination.
The coaches help greatly with the mindset of a baseball player and the philosophy of this dominant baseball program. We have acronyms like TOB (Transfer Of Blame), SWDC (So What Don’t Care), and many more. One of our sayings that we adopted last year was, “Burn the Ships.”
The back-story to our saying, “Burn the Ships,” is actually a history lesson. In 1519, Hernan Cortez led the Spanish conquistadors to victory over the Aztec warriors in Mexico although the conquistadors were drastically outnumbered. Cortez ordered his men to burn the ships and which they had sailed to Mexico. What this signifies was that even though they were outnumbered, there was no turning back. No surrender. Going all in on themselves.
That applies to our program in a couple of ways. First, being that we are all in. Everyone works together for Rams baseball. Second, being that regardless of who our opponent is, we are confident that we will be successful.
Many different programs and people operate through their philosophies in life, and even in sports. The philosophies we have implemented in our MV Rams Baseball program have helped me to become a better player, and overall making me stronger mentally.
