MV took on The Centralia Orphans in a heated rivalry conference game Friday January 12. The Rams ultimately came out on top in the south seven matchup with a score of 43-38, also Navontae Nesbit Jr,’24 led the team in scoring with 22.
Nesbit hit a career milestone as well in scoring his 1,000th point as a Varsity Basketball player for the MV.
The Orphans are a longtime rival of MV, They came into this game with a 17-0 record as well as being a top 10 team in the state.
MV’s first meeting with the Orphans this season didn’t go as planned as MV lost 35-57 in a heartbreaking loss.
“We Believed we were a much improved team since the first meeting. Our guys worked to be well prepared and expected to be successful,” said Coach Holloway.
Nesbit Jr, ‘24 also scored his 1000th career point as an MV Ram, This is a great honor for any basketball player that has come through and scored over a 1,000 points.
“No, I wasn’t worried about hitting 1k points. I knew it was coming up but I just wanted to win the game. The score from the last game didn’t sit well with me. We weren’t going to let them do that in our house.” Stated Nesbit Jr.
“It always feels good to see hard work pay off. We were very happy for our guys.” Holloway Exclaimed.
Dave Barnes a MV freshman has worked his way into the every game starting lineup this year for MV.
This was his first home encounter with the Orphans in a very important game and showed up with 10 points and 3 rebounds.
“It just felt like any other game I started in. The atmosphere was good, just treat every game the same.” Barnes said.
Marlin Price has also been huge for this MV defense night in and night out. Price is always guarding the opposing team’s best player and takes care of business.
Price held Orphans senior guard Cruz Harlan to 7 points throughout the entirety of the game, Price is a fierce defender as well as a threat in the paint on the offensive side of things.
“Just being in the right headspace.” Price stated when being asked about how it is guarding other teams best players every night.
