On January 12, MV’s Navontae Nesbit scored his 1,000th career point against the Centralia Orphans in Changnon Gym.
“It was a great feeling, I didn’t find out until we were in the locker room after the game. Coach announced it and we all celebrated accordingly by throwing water and stuff. It felt good to share that moment with my teammates,” Nesbit said.
Nesbit has played basketball at MV since his freshman year, he played at Casey Middle School when he was younger.
“Everyone who knows me knows that I bleed orange and black. I take great pride in being from Mt. Vernon and playing for this school,” Nesbit stated.
The Rams would also go on to pull off a historical event that same evening: ending the Orphans’ undefeated season.
“I feel like it was perfect timing. It couldn’t have come in a better game or a better moment in the game,” said Nesbit
“I found out after the game that it was the go-ahead bucket to take the lead back after trailing in the second half,” Nesbit added.
Nesbit is now the 15th all-time leading MV Rams basketball program scorer.
