On January 11, 2024, MV FBLA attended the Southern Area Conference at Southern Illinois University in Carbondale.
27 MV students placed at the conference, 15 of which placed first in their respective events.
“I competed in Intro to FBLA, which is an objective test about anything related to FBLA. Some of the questions asked what the address of the national office is, where the first FBLA chapter originated, and other random FBLA facts. I ended up placing first in my event,” said Alistair Clodi, ‘26.
Even with much success at Area, not all of MV could place in their events, which is okay since Area is a building block for the large competition that is State Conference, and then hopefully Nationals.
“My event was public speaking and I enjoyed giving speeches to the judges. I had to write about ways to prevent cybercrime scams from happening, which was interesting for me to learn about while researching for my speech. I plan to use the judges’ notes to come back better prepared for State Conference,” described Mazie Eilerts, ‘25.
With Vice-President Nolan Armstrong departing from Area Office, it was time to elect a new officer team, and MV elected three new officers to the board.
Led by President Alistair Clodi, the 2024-25 Area board is also headed by MV’s Mazie Eilerts as Vice-President, and Amelia Lamont as Reporter.
“I am so honored to be elected as the Southern Area President for the 2024-2025 school year. On top of organizing our area conference, I cannot wait to represent the best area in Illinois at the state level,” stated Clodi.
“It feels pretty good to be re-elected to Southern Area Office, and I am glad people feel I will be good for the role,” said Eilerts.
“I am flattered, but I ran unopposed, so I wasn’t selected, rather just handed the position,” described Amelia Lamont, ‘25.
