MV’s theater department is preparing to put on another great show at Schweinfurth Theater.
The Little Mermaid is being shown March 14 – 16, with one show on the 14th and two on the 16th.
“We selected this show because we wanted a fun, exciting show that appealed to all ages,” stated Theater Director Mrs. Raquel Bliffen.
The theater department has been working on the set and costumes for over half the school year.
“Auditions began in December, and now everyone is memorizing lines, building sets, plotting costumes, setting lights, and selling ticket advertisements,” said Mrs. Bliffen.
The Little Mermaid is a 1989 American animated musical fantasy film produced by Walt Disney Feature Animation and released by Walt Disney Pictures.
Student director Caedance Morgan, ‘25 stated, “The directors wanted to put on a classic show that everyone knew and that was entertaining for all ages.”
Not only is Mrs. Bliffen the theater director, but she is also an English teacher, so she has two times the work to do during show production.
“The amount of work that goes into a new show is so overwhelming, at times, that it can make people think there’s no way we can get it all done! However, we have a great team that is completely prepared to make this show awesome,” said Mrs. Bliffen.
Just Mrs. Bliffen doesn’t put on the show. She also has a big theater crew behind her helping with the show.
Mrs. Bliffen stated “We have over 50 actors, 20 tech crew, 10 stage crew, and five costumers. We also have 2 assistants and other ticket sellers.”
The theater department has been working hard all year to put this production together, so make sure to get your tickets when they go on sale.
