The Drama Club has had their new 2024 to 2025 officers since May. How did the voting go and what are their plans for the year?
New drama club president Jinx Craddock, ´25, stated ¨I just really like it cause I feel like I can help the program a lot.”
Club members expressed excitement when the positions were released, but they were also nervous about being named the positions.
From all that was said between the new officers, there was chatter about who would be in what position since a few officers were campaigning for about four months before the actual voting.
Drama Club Historian Merus Brown, ´25, states ¨ It was a tie between our president Jinx, and one of our assistants, Carter. They were the two most active campaigners out of all the officers before the elections.¨
Tilan Vance, ´26, added that it wasn´t only the campaigns that swayed people, it was the speeches that caused everyone to be voted in.
The club’s current hierarchy as stated by Craddock is “Bliffen, then the Holdens help out.”
Cradock then expanded on the topic by adding “Mrs. Holden usually helps out with the musical with like the chorus and stuff and Mr.Holden is the assistant director for most things.”
Craddock also mentioned the other positions and who is in which position by saying “Then it goes me as the president and then Casey Jones is the Vice president then I believe after the VP is the secretary which is Zuri Doss, and then our treasurer is Sarah Butler. We have many historians this year … Lilly Myers is our head historian.”
The Drama Club has also re-started a new pattern of staging a “Performance in the Round” every other year. This year’s PIR is The Day The Crayons Quit written by Jinx Craddock.
¨We always try to tailor our program to the needs of our program itself and the students that are in it and this year we knew that we had a lot of seniors leaving and a lot of new freshmen coming in and we knew that we had a lot of talent and how we could develop that was by giving them more opportunities to be on stage.¨
The Drama department, although Planning five plays this year, is also planning to do other events.
Craddock stated “I just want to do more casual hangouts. We met a few times to like watch a movie last year but I just think that there is a lot more that we could be doing just social-wise.”
Those aren’t all the Drama club is doing. Brown expressed ¨I know we go to several Fox shows throughout the semester and we also have a Shakespeare in the Park for all drama club members.¨
The drama club has just had their informational meeting for the year on (finding day) during all lunch hours.
Vance mentioned “I know some of the people that came in and like I saw some of the plays they did at Casey and oh yeah they’re good. We got good actors and we got a lot of them.¨
Ms.Bliffen stated ¨I’m excited they´re eager, lots of campers did it but also they’re just so many students that didn’t do theater that are trying out this year. A lot of seniors who had never been in before were just like if I don’t do it now I´m never going to.¨
All have mentioned that even with all the events coming up their 2 favorites of the year are the planned Opereta Mamma Mia! And the thought of taking the hound of Baskervilles to be performed at Theater Fest which Drama attends annually.
However, Craddock said it isn’t easy to perform at Theater Fest due to a $2,000 fee.
Drama Club is open to everyone. However Mrs.Bliffen did mention ¨We have so many people that are trying to get involved this year so I think that’s wonderful but I´m sad, I’m worried I´m gonna have to turn people away. So this will be the year that we have to make cuts and so if people want to get involved they should try out for Speech and Acting.¨
