MV Theater Department staged its very own show, Sherlock Holmes: Hounds of Baskerville, on September 6 in the Schweinfurth Theater.
The cast of this show is all so passionate about acting and doing the dances and songs.
“I love musicals. I like to sing and dance while I am also acting. I am just a big all-around performer. I guess I enjoy performing in all of it,” stated Caitlynn Currie ’25.
Preparing for new roles and auditions can be a tricky job trying to get into character and play it out perfectly.
Sylvio Martoccio, ’27, has a routine for his new roles to get into character.
“Basically you have to feel like you’re that character, think in that perspective,” he stated.
People can feel incredibly nervous before going out onto the stage.
“Yeah, I have a little bit of performance anxiety but I push through most of the time, I don’t think I ever not,” Currie said.
“I trick my body into being confident by making myself big like Wonder Woman and it tricks your body into being confident. Nervous people make themselves small and you can tell, but if you do that you are sending endorphins into the body,” Mrs. Raquel Bliffen, theater director, stated.
There are so many plays and themes to choose from. “Serious, dark themes,” Martoccio said.
Many roles go into the plays.
“I like to be the villain. I like to be the bad guy. So anything I get to be bad,” stated Mrs. Bliffen.
Being on set brings new experiences to people.
Martoccio said, “Friends and stuff, it is really fun getting to know everybody.”
“On set, my favorite prop is my feather duster. I have feather-dusted a whole lot of people in the face. I don’t think they like it very much but it makes me laugh,” Currie said.
The Sherlock Holmes play had two showings on September 6 at 12:30 pm and 7:00 pm.
Mrs. Barrymore, Currie, had loads of fun acting, “There are so many talented people in the theater and I just kinda want to be around them, the vibe, the energy the place,” she stated.
The cast was happy to be a part of this play and perform it for their friends and family.
Marticcio stated, “Pursue acting, I enjoy it.”
