MV’s 2024 Homecoming dance will be held on October 19, from 7 pm to 10 pm in Changnon Gym. Dr. Jamey VanZandt, Mrs. Christi Besant, and Student Council members have been working to put together this year’s Homecoming.
The dance’s theme is “Night on the Bayou,” and was selected by the Student Council at their back-to-school workshop. Mrs. Besant stated, “Student Council members got into small groups. Each group came up with a theme, these themes were presented to the large group and voted on.”
Student Council members have also decided on the activities for the week leading up to Homecoming.
According to Dr. VanZandt, “The week will involve spirit days, a Powderpuff football game, the pep rally, Ram merch sales at the game, and, of course, the Homecoming dance.”
The Student Council organizes and prepares which decorations will be used for the dance.
Dr. VanZandt stated, “Dance decorations are underway, and we are meeting with a couple of decorators to decide which direction to go … the theme of the dance is ‘Night on the Bayou’ and should involve a lot of earthy, mystical decorations.”
The Student Council members also have sold sponsorships to raise money for the organization of the Homecoming dance.
Besant said, “Student Council members are currently getting sponsorships, t-shirt design is being finalized, and items for the court have been purchased.”
With organizing a Homecoming dance, there are lots of problems, but there should always be a plan of action for when these issues arise.
Dr. VanZandt stated, “There are always issues, but we meet them, develop a solution, and move forward!”
Homecoming is an event-packed week, but it holds many memories for the students and the staff, and the event will always be a big part of the school year.
Dr. VanZandt said, “I hope the week involves a lot of fun and school spirit and tradition for all students and staff. It is a special week at MV.”
The students in Student Council are also very hopeful for this year’s Homecoming.
Taylor Ramirez, ‘28, stated, “A few hopes I have for this Homecoming are to have fun and spend time with my friends.”
There are always high hopes and expectations for the Homecoming dance and the week leading up to the event.
Dr. VanZandt said, “New co-advisor, Mrs. Christi Besant and I have high hopes for an amazing ‘Once Upon a Homecoming’ event.”
Homecoming week is October 15 – 19, and the ticket sales for the dance begin October 7 and will last until October 10 in F lobby.
