Last year we said goodbye to our Superintendent Mrs. Melanie Andrews as she set off to start a new career in the Department of Education.
Mrs. Andrews now serves as the Senior Director of Professional Learning and Student Programs, overseeing all professional learning activities for educators in ROE 13.
“ROE 13 provided a variety of services in Clinton, Jefferson, Marion, and Washington Counties. One would be amazed at all of the things we do in our office. I will list a few – GEDs, sub-teacher and para lists, educator licensure, work permits, licensure testing, compliance reviews, professional learning, Brain Games, spelling bees, MV Conference, scholar bowl, Pre-K programs…..the list goes on and on!” reported Andrews.
Andrews’ career shift was motivated by multiple factors in her life including a change in priorities as well as the difficult work-life balance that comes with being Superintendent.
“There were several things that caused me to essentially reprioritize areas of my life. My dad has dementia and currently resides in a memory care apartment in MV. I want to be able to spend as much time with him while we can have good conversations. Those conversations include memories of my mom, Rams basketball, and just life in general. I also had an incredibly difficult time shaking off the stress as a superintendent – I think that partly came from being from here and always, always wanting to do things well for my community. It was hard for me to have a healthy work-life balance while trying to focus on my dad,” stated Andrews.
The saying, “Once a Ram, Always a Ram” rings true for Mrs. Andrews.
“I miss so many things…my friends, my students, orange-flavored chicken, the assemblies, the dances, Ram-tastic Refreshers…I miss every single thing about MVTHS – it’s my home school, and I have been a Ram all of my life. But you can take the girl out of MV, but you can’t take MV out of the girl. So no matter what, I am always with you in spirit. And I proudly wear my orange and black on football Friday!”
Although we no longer see Mrs. Andrews every day, she is still a huge supporter of all things MV.
“MVTHS is in good hands with Mr. LeCrone as the new superintendent. He cares about the students, staff, and community. I plan to attend some events this year – I won’t be a stranger as my love for MVTHS will always be with me. I look forward to seeing what amazing things everyone will accomplish this year!”
