With the start of the 24-25 NBA season rolling in this October 22, fans, students and teachers alike expressed some of their thoughts and expectations.
As for the previous season, however, these fans had thoughts about the simplicity of the season as a whole.
“I really only watched maybe a dozen games in the season. They seemed pretty cookie-cutter. Didn’t seem to be any surprise,” stated Mr. David Edwards, Spanish.
Some student fans seemed to be avid supporters of the Golden State Warriors, as shown by their disappointment with the team’s shortcomings.
“Watching Klay Thomson go 0/10 in an elimination game made me very sad,” stated Caine Kessler, ‘26.
Alvy Mellot, ‘26, had thoughts about his favorite team (the Warriors) from the most recent season, as he expressed his opinions on their players.
“I was mad because Draymond Green was never playing and Klay Thompson was bad,” Mellot said.
Lebron James playing with his son Bronny James is one of the biggest topics of this upcoming season as most fans doubt Bronny’s skill level and if he belongs in the NBA in the first place.
“I’m sympathetic to Bronny because it has to be tough with all of the expectations on him, and he is a good player, but from what I have seen he is not an NBA-level player. My personal opinion would be that if his dad was not Lebron he would not be playing,” Mr. McCann stated.
Most imagine that the only reason Bronny is in the NBA is because his father wants to play with him; the Lakers have to aid his requests or else he will find a new team, leaving them Lebron-less.
“It’s a stunt. I like that they’ll be able to say, ‘Oh, father and son!’ but I don’t have negative feelings about it,” said Mr. Edwards.
Many basketball connoisseurs have similar opinions on Bronny and his sudden acceptance into the league.
“I think he’ll move down to the G-League. I think he belongs lower than the G-League but since he’s Lebron James’ son he’ll stay there and not be moved to college,” stated Bryson Oathout, ‘26.
A big conversation topic and possibly the most controversial is the Most Valuable Player award presented to the best player in the league that year.
“MVP? Probably Doncic, Jayson Tatum, could be one of those two,” Mr. Edwards claimed.
With new and upcoming players, most believe they could take home the award, but Mr. McCann believes that the cycle of the MVP will continue to repeat itself.
“I’m kind of a the best is the best until someone beats the best person so Nikola Jokić has won it 3 out of the last 4. I feel like he is the favorite until someone beats him. I could see Victor Wembanyama or possibly Joel Embiid being challengers,” said Mr. McCann.
As for this year’s rookie draft, Mr. McCann shows us a glimpse of what fans think.
“I am interested to see how Reed Sheppard does if he gets to play in Houston. I saw him play in high school and he is definitely tough, but is also undersized for an NBA guard I think so I’m pulling for him to do well,” Mr. McCann said.
