Former Superintendent Melanie Andrews announced her resignation from her role at MVTHS and returned to ROE #13 on July 1st as Senior Director of Professional Learning and Student Programs.
“It’s been different. It took me a little bit to get adjusted back to the ROE. I’ve worked here before, so it wasn’t completely new,” Mrs. Andrews explained.
Becoming the superintendent of MVTHS was a lifelong dream for Mrs. Andrews, and many staff members were excited to support her on this new journey.
“Being able to be the superintendent there was one of my goals even when I was in high school, and being able to achieve that is something that I’ll always treasure,” she shared.
Though many knew Mrs. Andrews as a former MV English teacher, was warmly welcomed when she was appointed as the new superintendent.
“I found her to be very intelligent and focused on her new role as an English teacher. That impression only has grown over time – Mrs. Andrews is also friendly, kind, funny, sarcastic, and a true Ram fan,” Dr. VanZandt, Communication Arts, one of Mrs. Andrews’s close colleagues shared.
Many people miss Mrs. Andrews here at MV, but how does she feel?
“Yes. I miss all the activities that we did. With homecoming week coming up, I was involved in that. And to see that from an outside perspective is just different, even though I’ll be somewhat involved,” Mrs. Andrews explained.
Being a superintendent comes with a lot of stress, but Mrs. Andrews still found fun in chaos.
“Being able to work with students again, and just being able to be at my home high school. I’ve loved Mount Vernon since I was little,” Mrs. Andrews shared about her favorite part of being superintendent.
It is well known that Mrs. Andrews was able to accomplish many things while in the superintendent position.
“She has always been one of the hardest working and dedicated individuals to ever hold any of those positions. She has a passion for education and a work ethic to match,” shared Mr. Jeremy Mays, Communication Arts.
Many shared the same excitement as Mrs. Andrews entered her new position.
“I was excited when I heard that she had been hired. I knew she had wanted this job for several years,” Ms. Jessica Pilson, Social Studies shared.
Many students, staff, residents of MV, and visitors admire our campus, and we have Mrs. Andrews to thank for that.
“I’m proud of the stuff we did. I’m proud of the fact that we were able to get a lot of building projects done,” the former MV chief shared.
Not only did Mrs. Andrews provide more visual improvements to MVTHS, but she also provided educational advancements.
“When I was there, we were able to add more programs and more classes. And I think, even though I was only there four years, I think we did a lot of cool things,” she stated.
Mrs. Andrews accomplished a lot during her time here, but her greatest achievement is the strong relationships she formed with MVTHS staff and students, which will be cherished for years to come.
Mr. Michael Koehnke, Assistant Principal, acknowledged what many MVTHS students felt, “She always had what was best for the students on her mind.”
Mrs. Andrews has cherished Mount Vernon since her childhood.
“I’ve loved MV since I was little when I would start coming to basketball games with my dad.” Mrs. Andrews shared.
Her love for MV has only grown stronger into adulthood.
“I always say, once a Ram, always a Ram. I still wear my Ram gear on football Fridays. And I told someone that you can take the girl out of Mount Vernon, but you can’t take the Mount Vernon out of the girl.” Mrs. Andrews closed.
