MV’s Film Club is ready to ‘Scream’ its way into the “Thrills of Chills” Movie Night on October 28 in B-Wing.
Started and run by Mr. David Edwards and Mr. Jeremy Mays, the Film Club is an addition to MV’s vast array of clubs that started earlier this year.
“Mr. Edwards and I have discussed doing it for several years, but the stars never aligned,” Mr. Mays explained.
The Film Club previously held a “High School Movies” movie night in September.
Mr. Edwards stated that it was a “small turnout for the first night,” but hopes that word of mouth will help improve the attendance for the upcoming event.
“I think it’s a great experience and free movies,” said Noah Tillman, ’26, who attended the earlier movie night.
The Film Club is looking forward to a good and fun evening on the 28th.
Mr. Edwards explained that he is looking for kids to “fill in the gaps” with movies and parts of pop culture that they know about.
Mr. Mays stated that he is expecting “A solid turnout” for the night.
“Halloween is my favorite time of the year and would love to see students get involved in this film set,” Mr. Mays continued.
With future movie nights being tied to holidays like Christmas, the Film Club is always looking for new members to come to events and watch movies.
Tillman explained that the movie night is a good event to connect with peers.
Mr. Mays said to “Give it a go. There is something for everyone.”
“Bring ideas of things to do,” explained Mr. Edwards, who further explained that he wants students to provide thoughts on what films to watch.
The Film Club is about watching and appreciating movies of the past and present, so what are some of the member’s favorite horror or Halloween films?
“The original Carpenter Halloween is the king,” said Mr. Mays.
Tillman’s choice was The Nightmare Before Christmas. Mr. Edwards stated that while he doesn’t have a “favorite true horror movie,” his favorite in the sci-fi horror genre would be The Thing.
