Have you ever thought of making robots? What about spaghetti? Well, the MV RoboRams do both! And effortlessly, too.
“The spaghetti dinner is a long-standing tradition. We’ve been hosting it for years longer than I’ve been here,” Mrs. Karen Slous, RoboRams Mentor, stated.
The RoboRams get together every year to bring the community together with spaghetti, salad, desserts, and “lots and lots, and lots of garlic bread.” Everything from the spaghetti to the sauces is hand-made with love and care. It’s an event everyone on the team is expected to attend, as it is their biggest fundraiser of the year. With only one other fundraising event, a Krispy Kreme Donut sale, the RoboRams really have to step up to earn the amount of money needed to build their robot.
Most RoboRams members have been involved with the club since their freshman year. Plenty of them have been around long enough to be apart of the Spaghetti Dinner multiple times.
“It’s one of the best experiences of my life,” claimed Madeline Fiedler, RoboRams member, ‘26.
A popular attraction of the spaghetti dinner is the silent auction. According to Alexander White, RoboRams member, ‘25, “it brings the entertainment.” They also had a 50/50 raffle, where the winner gets half of the money earned from raffle ticket sales.
Once the fun is over, the RoboRams clean everything up, count everything, and take a silly photo. This is RoboRams member, class of 2025, Kara Klos’ favorite part.
“During build season, we eat some of the leftovers since there’s always so much,” Klos mentioned.
The RoboRams hosted the annual event on October 25th at a familiar location: St. Mary’s Church. Upon first look, it may seem a strange venue, but after arriving inside, you’ll understand why it is the recurring place of choice for the RoboRams. The small side gymnasium has an attached kitchen, typically where patrons of the church congregate for morning donuts and coffee. But on the 25th, the area was transformed into a small restaurant of sorts. Despite its size, the gym can hold a surprisingly large amount of people. And if there is no room to sit, you could always get your food to-go, even delivered to your car!
The RoboRams work hard to provide a great experience for the customers of their food that are helping sponsor their build season.
