NHS started this busy year with some amazing volunteer opportunities.
As the NHS officers work hard they share their insight on how they manage it all.
“I keep a detailed planner and it helps me out that we set our meeting dates well in advance for practically the whole year, and I can make sure that I am there before I commit to another club activity,” said Addi Tinsley, 25’.
While being in high school there is a large amount of stress on academics and social lives.
Members of NHS share how they balance both.
“Utilizing the extra time at school for school work allows time after school to be dedicated to social events,” said Officer Zuri Das, 25’.
“I strive to do good academically, by taking time to do my school work, then once that is finished, I allow myself to have fun with friends” Isabella Standford stated.
Managing all of this can take a big toll on mental health.
Some members of NHS shared how they take a break when feeling drained.
“When feeling overwhelmed with school work, it helps me to make a to-do list of all the tasks that take me the least amount of time to the most and complete them in that order. Lastly, it’s most important to take a break every once in a while,” said Tinsley.
Along with this mental toll staying busy can put on you, there is also a lack of motivation.
NHS members share how they stay motivated.
“I stay motivated by telling myself I am helping people in need and bettering my community through NHS,” said Isabella Stanford, 26’.
“I stay motivated by remembering that I am working for a cause bigger than myself” stated Das.
NHS has many volunteer opportunities that range from donations to community service.
The advisers add in a variety of options to choose from, and NHS members share their personal favorite service opportunities.
“I think one of my favorite volunteer opportunities was helping out at the historical village for their candle walk,” said Tinsley.
“We had to dress up in old dresses and light candles the whole time and I think most people forget that we have a historical village and it’s cool to see all they have there,” Tinsley said.
“My favorite volunteer opportunity was the MV Teacher Conference, it’s nice to help teachers that work so hard to help us,” expressed Stanford.
