With former Superintendent Mrs. Melanie Andrews’s departure, MV Student Council had to go searching for a new Advisor to join Dr. VanZandt.
Mrs. Christi Besant stepped up to the plate and decided to take on the challenge of Co-Advisor.
“Both of my daughters were heavily involved in student council. I recognized that the skills they gained from participating in this organization were priceless! I felt that I needed to be a co-sponsor to “return the favor” for everything that previous sponsors, and especially Dr. VanZandt, have done for my girls,” described Mrs. Besant.
Student Council hit the ground running in the beginning months of school and Besant has been heavily involved.
“I am still in the learning process. But so far, I have been involved in most of the meetings as well as Homecoming planning,” stated Mrs. Besant.
Mrs. Besant had little experience before joining the Student Council crew.
“My only previous experience with student council is watching what my daughters did. I attended the state convention in Chicago and was able to see how the meeting was run, as well as listen to the speeches that were given,” said Mrs. Besant.
There’s a rich Student Council history in the Besant household, with daughters Peyton and Paige being former State Officers and Executive Board Members.
“Both of my daughters were heavily involved in student council. I recognized that the skills they gained from participating in this organization were priceless,” described Mrs. Besant.
With a new mind coming into Student Council, that means new ideas are going to be brought forth.
“We had the Student body president speak to the freshman classes before elections and explain what student council is, in hopes that students would be prompted to give student council a try,” said Mrs. Besant.
