On September 16, MV student council held their third annual Powderpuff event as a Homecoming Week night activity.
Over the past three years, Powderpuff has become a staple of Homecoming Week and students look forward to it every year.
“I think it was the best game yet, most well organized and also most competitive,” described Isabella Stanford, ‘26.
The games began with the juniors going up against the sophomores.
“Participating in Powderpuff is another great way to get involved and meet new people and learn new things,” said Brenna Timmons, ‘27.
“Powderpuff’s so much fun, I’ve done it since my sophomore year, so it feels like a tradition every year at Homecoming,” stated Stanford.
The sophomores ended up upsetting the heavily favored juniors in a close-knit contest.
“Can’t wait for next year’s Powderpuff,” exclaimed Stanford.
Lots of practice goes into Powderpuff to make sure the players know the rules and what they need to do to go in and win the contests.
“My team prepared by practicing and doing team bonding games,” stated Timmons.
“We practiced a couple of times and after the game, we had a team dinner which was super fun,” said Stanford.
“We had two practices before the game and they were an hour and a half to two hours long, and our coaches came up with our plays before practices,” described Gracyn Plummer, ‘28.
One class that did not get much practice before the games was the most experienced team, the seniors.
“We only had one practice and had half of our team so we prepared with dance music before the first round,” explained Kamaree Pollard, ‘25.
This rust would be evident at the start of the freshman-senior contest as it was a hard-fought battle before the seniors began to pull away and get the win.
“Powderpuff to me just meant a chance to do something new with my friends and to represent my class,” said Plummer.
“I feel the Powderpuff game went good this year and I would say it was better than last year,” stated Pollard.
Finally, it was time for the championship game between the sophomores and the seniors.
Just like all of the other games on the card, this was a down-to-the-wire matchup, but the seniors pushed through adversity and a very cold atmosphere to defeat the sophomores 13-12.
“I think my team could improve next year by learning how to catch better because we struggled at that,” explained Timmons.
“Gonna miss powderpuff and playing with my girls but glad we went out with a bang,” described Pollard.
