The Rams soccer team lost to the Waterloo Bulldogs 7-0 on October 22.
With this loss in the Regional playoffs, the Rams season has come to an abrupt end.
“A lot of us were still nursing injuries from the previous game with Marion, and the best that we could give was obviously not the best we’ve ever done,” said Elias Mullinax, ‘25.
“Waterloo is a solid team and tough competition. We could have connected passes amongst our team better. When the opposing team obtains the ball our team needs to do better at shrinking the field. By doing this it will cause the opposing team to get clogged up and we can regain possession of the ball,” described Keaton Koch, ‘27.
Even with the loss, there were many highlights during this soccer season.
“I feel the season went well. We have made lots of improvements and we finished the season with one of the best records in years,” said Koch.
“The community and bond between the team is strong and it is a young team that will keep improving,” stated Liam Asberry, ‘25.
With an 8-10 record, not only the performance of the team was different, but also the chemistry between teammates.
“This year’s Rams soccer was patient and calm under pressure. We still made mistakes but always looking for the next play to get right back into action,” described Koch.
“Playing with this team this year was better than I could’ve imagined. Going into the season, I was a little skeptical because I heard some negative opinions about our soccer team, but in the end, those negative opinions were proven wrong and we were able to have one of the best seasons in a while,” said Mullinax.
Even with a record that seems to be on the up-and-up, there are still areas that need improvement.
“We need to work on our weaknesses and focus in on the team’s strengths,” explained Koch.
“I feel like with soccer, you can definitely see more growth in a shorter amount of time than in other sports,” said Mullinax.
For Koch, it’s time to move into the offseason and begin preparing for next year.
“My plan before next year’s soccer season is to review film,” stated Koch.
As for Mullinax, his time with the program will come to a close after just one season.
“Joining the soccer team my senior year made me regret not playing all four years, it was awesome,” exclaimed Mullinax.
