As the holiday season approaches, a familiar debate arises: When is it appropriate to start decorating for Christmas?
Before Thanksgiving? The day after? Or should folks have to wait even longer?
“Christmas decorations shouldn’t be put up until after Thanksgiving; we should take it one holiday at a time,” asserted Olivia Burns, ‘25.
Mazie Eilerts, ‘25, said “I like to decorate before Thanksgiving so the festivities last longer.”
In addition to decorating for Christmas, there is the looming responsibility of preparing gifts for loved ones.
“I start to buy presents at the end of October so I can relax when the holiday season is here,” said Ben Zirkelback, ‘25.
Burns stated, “ I wait until the week before Christmas to buy all my Christmas presents, so I can get it all done at one time.”
Everyone has a different idea when it comes to Christmas decorations. Some people go all out, putting inflatables and lights all over their yard, while others may not put lights up at all.
“We like to put a couple Christmas trees up in the yard and decorate our whole house with lights,” stated Eilerts.
“My family doesn’t put any Christmas decorations outside. Instead we put up a few wreaths in our windows and a Christmas tree up in the house,” said Burns.
“When I decorate for Christmas I put a lot of inflatables in my yard along with a manger,” said Zirkelback.
Almost everyone has a different perspective on how and when to prepare for the holidays, but one thing we can all agree on is the joy we feel when we can all begin to decorate in anticipation of the Christmas season, whatever the time.
