On January 11, The Lady Rams Cheer team placed first out of eight teams for their Large Gameday routine at ICCA, held at the Bank of Springfield Center in Springfield, Illinois.
“It is really exciting [to win a state championship]! Everyone on our team worked so hard and was very deserving of first,” described Olivia Burns, ‘25.
“It feels great to see all of our hard work pay off finally,” stated Jaylynn Ortiz, ‘25.
The cheerleaders put their all into this routine, resulting in many hours of practicing.
“We have been working on our routines for a few months but put in many long practices,” said Burns.
“It took many practices and a lot of work,” described Hallie Mayo, ‘27.
Now, post-ICCA, the Lady Rams Cheerleaders are now focused on qualifying for IHSA Sectionals.
“After ICCA State, the focus is Sectionals to qualify for IHSA State,” stated Ortiz.
Competitions such as ICCA bring many memories that will be remembered for a lifetime.
“Staying in the hotel and making memories with my friends,” described Mayo.
“The moment we won first place, celebrating with my team,” explained Ortiz.
The Lady Rams Cheerleaders have a connection that separates themselves from every other group and it’s showcased in how they praise each other.
“I’m so thankful for every girl on my team! They are all so talented and have made this season so memorable! I love you all so much! Thank you all for making this season such a great year,” stated Burns.
“I’m so proud of everyone and so grateful for my team! We have worked so hard all year and made so many memories! It was such a good year,” said Mayo.
When the senior year of athletics rolls around, it’s always a bittersweet moment to be competing in the final competitions of your high school career.
“As a senior, I’m very grateful to have my amazing teammates and coaches who have worked so hard to lead us through an amazing season so far,” stated Ortiz.
Congratulations, Lady Rams! We at the Vernois Sports Department will be cheering you on!
