The 2025 Super Bowl took place on February 9, at Caesars Superdome in New Orleans, Louisiana. Kendrick Lamar was the artist chosen to headline the halftime show of Super Bowl LIX.
Did the performance and hype live up to expectations?
“Yes. Simply because Kendrick Lamar is a great attraction,” stated Mr. Rolland Mays, Orchestras.
“No, I don’t think so. It was going to be hard to beat Usher, but I feel like all of the halftime performances were a lot bigger than Kendrick’s. He was never in the air or did anything big,” said Sophia Baumhoegger, ‘28.
Lamar decided on SZA to be his guest artist at this year’s halftime show.
“SZA carried the whole performance. She did amazing. I wish there was more of her,” stated Baumhoegger.
Looking back, was Kendrick a good choice for this year’s performance?
“Personally, I did not think Kendrick Lamar was a good choice. They could have picked someone way better, but I just don’t listen to that music,” said Baumhoegger.
“I think he is a great artist, but I question his format,” said Mr. Mays.
Usher’s performance at last year’s Super Bowl is causing a lot of comparison between Lamar’s and Usher’s performances.
“Usher was very big and loud and had many different people with him. I also know more songs from Usher than I do Kendrick,” stated Baumhoegger.
Kendrick chose to perform the song “Not Like Us,” which targets Drake.
“I do not think his whole performance was targeted towards Drake, but that one song definitely was,” said Baumhoegger.
There are many opinions regarding the outfits chosen for this performance.
“I loved SZA’s outfit, but I did not like Kendrick’s pants at all,” stated Baumhoegger.
“I always like a good football game and the halftime show adds to the evening,” said Mr. Mays.
