With spring on its way, baseball teams have been hard at work throughout the offseason.
“We are excited to get the season started. We have had a far more productive off-season than we did last season. We are proud of those who have attended off-season workouts consistently, and they have undoubtedly gotten stronger and improved their skills,” stated Head Coach Pierce Borah.
Hard work starts in the off season and for the Rams the off season starts when the previous season ends.
Since the last game of the 2024 season, the Rams are striving to get better.
The team goes through a series of weight lifting workouts. These include mental workouts, and of course baseball workouts at Brennan Klein Field amd in the turf room.
Throughout the Rams baseball program the goals are the same from jv and varsity, and that’s to keep a well balanced culture and to maintain the standards of a great baseball program.
Coach Borah commented, “The goals always remain the same from season to season. We want to uphold our culture and our standards. Fortunately for us, we have a core group of players who have been involved in our program who do a great job of modeling what we want to be about. In order to achieve success on the diamond, it will come down to how well we can execute our system.”
Coming into the 2025 season, the Rams have already faced several challenges and setbacks.
Two key players; Trevor McClure ‘27 and Keaton Plummer ‘25 went down with some injuries that won’t allow them to play this season.
But the team looks to push through adversity and still manage to win games without certain players having the chance to play.
“We are obviously down two of our impact players with the injuries to Keaton Plummer and Trevor McClure. Unfortunately, they will have to miss the entire season,” said Borah
“We were anticipating them being a big part of our lineup. With that being said, we are going to have to respond to some adversity. Although it is tough to not have those boys out there, we have the pieces to respond,” continued Borah
The Rams have only four seniors; Alex Kiefer, Diedrich Smith, Aaron Scarber, and Keaton Plummer, who are sidelined due to injuries.
For high school teams that is a very small number, but these seniors have goals that they have set for themselves and for the team.
“The team goal is to make it to state, that is the expectation every year. Some personal goals are breaking the walk record and helping my team out with a higher on base percentage,” stated senior catcher Alex Kiefer.
With a new season upon us; this means a new look within the diamond.
“We are going to work on our offense more. We have always had the pitching to go to state, but the offence has lacked greatly. Just doing what we do best, play some great defense and throw strikes,” Kiefer continued.
The Rams are looking to get back at the top of the South 7 and top of 3a baseball.
“ Come out to Brennan Klein to support your Rams Baseball!” stated Kiefer.
We are just going to take it one day at a time and the good lord willing, things will work out,” said Coach Borah.
