With a brilliant mind on and off the court, MV freshman Jayla Wilmore is already contributing in a major way to Lady Rams Volleyball.
Wilmore, a setter, is thrilled to be a part of the MV family.
Wilmore started playing volleyball in fifth grade. Wilmore looked up to her sisters and wanted to play a sport with them.
When looking back, Wilmore said that her role models are Abbie Strain and Kenzie Fritsche. They got her prepared for her future at MV.
Wilmore’s favorite part of being on the team at MV is how the coaches created a nice and friendly environment.
When Wilmore’s not on the court, she enjoys nature walks and spending time with friends and family.
As the year progresses, Wilmore looks forward to meeting new people and making new friends while also learning how to balance academics and sports.
Wilmore stated they have a good team, and they can improve their communication as a team in order to make their way to regionals.
Jayla states that coming from a small school with very few students and transitioning to a high school of this size has been a challenge for her.
This also opens an opportunity for her to meet more people and make new friends.
The metal detectors have also been a strange adjustment coming to the high school.
Wilmore’s message to incoming freshmen is, “Be yourself and try to stand out, and don’t follow others.”
Savannah Sellers, ‘27, looked back fondly on their time together on the team in middle school.
“She always gives her best effort and has a positive attitude despite the score,” Said Sellers.
Alexia Martin, a past teammate of Wilmore, also says, “She keeps things light and funny even when things are hard.”
Wilmore looks forward to her first season as a Lady Ram in both volleyball and basketball.
Wilmore is eager to grow and learn as this new chapter unfolds and gives her new opportunities.
Wilmore would like to add, “Get involved in extracurricular activities at school and stay true to yourself.”
