The Drama Rams are off to a successful start in their season competing in the Southern Illinois Speech & Acting League (SISAL).

Speech and Acting team members compete in a variety of performance events that include: Humorous Duet Acting, Poetry, Dramatic Interpretation, Impromptu, and Radio Speaking.

Coach Ms. Raquel Maxey shared her aspirations for this year’s team.

“So far, [the team] has performed excellently.  We want to continue to grow and challenge ourselves, and hopefully move up a spot in team sweepstakes. Overall, we would like to take multiple entries to state,” stated Ms. Maxey.

Team members expressed excitement for the season and experience.

Team Captain Addie Mays, ‘19, gave insight on the community the team provides.

“This year we have grown into such a beautifu [team] l and it makes me so happy to see so much talent and passion in one place,” Mays stated.

Lieutenant Captain Gatlin Miller, ‘19, described his favorite part of competing in the tournaments.

“I love the connections and friendships I’ve made through speech. I’ve met some incredible people that I talk to everyday,” said Miller.

On December 8, the MV Speech and Acting team will host a SISAL Tournament on campus.

More than 20 different schools from across Illinois will be in attendance to compete against teams in all events.
