MV announces “Me Day” incentive

“Do you want a ‘Me’ Day?”

Students may have read this on a poster hanging up around campus recently.

Students are able earn a Me Day, an excused absence for them to take a day off of school, in the month of April.

One can earn this incentive by not missing a day in the month of March, up to 2 tardies, and no truants.

This incentive is in place to boost attendance said Mr. Michael Koehnke, Assistant Principal.

Both Mr. Koehnke and Mr. Docherty, Freshman Academy Principal said there is an issue with students missing school.

Percentage-wise, the month of March has had the lowest attendance in the past according to Mr. Docherty.

They speculate the decrease in attendance may be due to students not wanting to come, as the end of the school year is near.

However, the Me Day incentive, which has been done in the past, has helped with this issue.

A list of students who earned the Me Day will be posted around campus at the end of March.

Then, the student must turn in a form to the Attendance Office prior to the day they have chosen to take their Me Day.

However, students are not permitted to take their Me Day on April 9 or 30.
