Fall sports are in full swing, and whether it’s under the Friday night lights of Ken Hunt Stadium or in the Tuesday afternoon sun at Indian Hills, athletes from all sports are playing their best to help their teams win. Each week, one Ram is recognized for their exceptional performance. This week’s WMIX Sports/Josh Finley, Country Financial Ram of the Week is Abigail Sevcik, ‘21 of Lady Rams volleyball, who recorded six kills and three blocks in a match against West Frankfort.

“It feels great being Ram of the Week!” said Sevcik on receiving the honor. “I’m very thankful for the opportunity to be a part of the volleyball program.”

Sevcik and the Lady Rams dropped a close match to the Frankfort Redbirds in three sets, but despite the loss the team still has positive takeaways from the night.

“Despite losing, I was still extremely proud of myself and the team for keeping our heads up and working together.”

Sevcik hopes to play volleyball in college, but in her words, “if that isn’t in God’s plan, then I hope to coach at some point.”

Speaking of coaches, Sevcik gives credit to the 2019 Lady Rams coaching staff, led by first-year head coach Erica Culpepper.

“I’m absolutely in love with the coaching staff this season and they have been by far the best coaches I’ve ever played for,” said Sevcik. “I thank them every day for making me who I am.”

Sevcik’s Lady Rams will return to the court on Tuesday, September 17th when they face the Althoff Crusaders, followed by a Thursday night visit with the Marion Wildcats.
