The Lady Rams are back to back South Seven Conference Champions.

The Mount Vernon girls are not only conference champions but were able to accomplish the feat of going 10-0 in conference play. The Lady Rams clinched first place in the conference against Cahokia on February 7, then completed the conference sweep at home against Marion on senior night on February 9.

The Lady Ram’s biggest win this season was against Cahokia with a score of 74-11. The closest conference game for the Lady Rams came in the form of a 12 point win on the road against Centralia.

The Lady Rams finished with a record of 23-5 on the year which was good enough to get the second seed in their sub-sectional, only behind Civic Memorial, who finished the season 28-4.

The Lady Rams matched up in their first game of regionals with Charleston on Monday the 14th. Mount Vernon won big with a final score of 63-21. They now slated play in the regional championship on Friday, the 18th against Effingham.

Reflecting on their season, players were quick to attribute their success to the team’s chemistry together. “I think we had so much success this year because we all have stuck together. Not only have we played four high school seasons together, but we also played a few travel seasons together in grade school so we all are close with each other.” said senior Zana Das.

Claire Heinzman added, “The bond between all of us as teammates is what caused this season to be so fun.”

It should also be noted that the Mount Vernon Lady Ram basketball program seems to have a bright future ahead of them as the Lady Rams JV team had an undefeated season this year. They also topped 100 points in one of their games during the season.
