MV’s men’s track team hold 1st place trophy

With winter coming to an end and spring on the horizon, that means that spring sports such as baseball, softball, men’s track and field, women’s track and field, men’s tennis, and women’s soccer are coming to MV soon. From the hiring of a new women’s soccer coach Elizabeth Watkins to the regional champion baseball team, there’s a lot to be excited about this spring season.

Let’s start off with baseball. The Rams have a pretty historic background and they are trying to add to that resume this season. The Rams won the South Seven with a record of 22-6, and the Regional championship last season, and it seems like they want to go farther this year. As of now the Rams just finished up with tryouts, and their first game will be at Salem against the Salem Wildcats on March 15 at 4:30 pm.

Along with baseball, softball is making its return. The MV softball team held their own tryouts on March 1 and 2. The Lady Rams hold their first game against the Collinsville Kahoks at Collinsville on March 17 at 4:30 pm.

Now, on to women’s soccer. The women’s soccer team finished with an overall record of 2-8 last season, ultimately making the playoffs but being defeated by Marion 9-0. They are hoping to turn it around this year. The Rams will have a chance to show us what they have in store for us this season as they compete in The Metro Cup tournament. The Metro Cup tournament will begin on March 14 and end on March 19.

MV’s men’s track team has started its season off on the right foot, winning their first meet at Marion on February 26, scoring a total of 119 points. The Rams track team will compete again on March 5 at SIU.

The women’s track team has also started their season. They competed in the Joe Elliot Indoor meet at Marion on February 28. The Rams then went on to place 10 out of 13 teams. We hope they can bounce back at their next meet at SIU on March 4.

Finally, the Rams men’s tennis team are holding open practices on the new tennis courts outside of the school and are working hard to get ready for their first away match against Mt. Carmel on March 15.
