As the Rams track season continues, the team continues to practice to achieve a successful season. From start to finish, every member of the team has a story to tell in their hopes and goals for the season.
Track newbie, Josh Crowder ‘27, is perhaps one of MV’s greatest prospects.
As a freshman, the biggest challenge for Crowder has been “knowing I’m not top dog anymore, but I still like running with the older guys and getting to learn from them.”
Crowder competes in the high jump, the 4×2 relay, and the 200m dash, and his goal is to achieve under 23 seconds in the latter event.
Though he’s no longer the top dog, Crowder hopes to “push people, give them a run for their money; I always say to myself, ‘Why would I quit today if tomorrow could be the day I win?’”
Another newcomer, Hannah Lowery ‘24, chose to join in her final year of high school.
“So far track has just been a fun environment to be a part of, it’s helped me start talking to more and more people and helped me branch out and do something I haven’t before,” said Lowery.
Lowery competes in shot put and discus and her personal goals for the season are to continue getting better each day and have fun and she looks forward to what the rest of the season holds.
An experienced member of MV track and three-time state-finalist, senior Trey Mygatt ‘24, has been running track since the 4th grade, and in his time at MV, he has become a valuable part of the team.
“Track has taught me to be a hard worker and a team player. It’s a great place where I make most of my friends and overall has a great atmosphere,” Mygatt stated.
This season Mygatt has high expectations for himself and would like to beat his records as well as break the MV record in the outdoor 800-meter dash.
