From April 4 to 6, 2024, The FBLA State Convention was held in Springfield Illinois, this was Illinois state’s 75th SLC which had its Diamond year Anniversary.
Some MV students had taken place and attended the convention and here are some of their insights.
Several students went to SLC and presented live performances such as presentations or public speaking, and the other students had taken tests before they attended the SLC.
Cam Meyers ‘25, MV FBLA Reporter said, “I competed in Impromptu speaking.”
Brylie Brands ‘24, MV FBLA Vice President said, “I competed in Business Plan and received 5th place.”
Nolan Armstrong ‘24, MV FBLA President said, “I took a test on Supply Chain Management.”
Alistair Clodi ‘26, MV Treasurer said, “At SAC and SLC I took an objective test, Introduction to FBLA.
Clodi added, “I placed first place at SAC and third place at SLC.”
As some students were earning a place in their competition, we had two MV students who had earned a state position, so let’s see what they earned and what their duties are as they serve a special position for Illinois State FBLA.
Meyers mentioned, “I ran for state Reporter and gained the position!”
Meyers added, “I will post on Instagram as well as update the website.”
Meyers added, “I’m excited to serve on Team 75 and see what comes next.”
Clodi mentioned, “At SLC, I was inducted as the Vice President from the Southern Area during the closing session.”
Clodi added, “I will be in charge of organizing and running the behind the scenes preparations alongside Ms. Hayes to ensure SAC flows smoothly.
Clodi added, “I am responsible for leading the opening and closing general sessions.”
As our MV students shined bright and got to serve as the Illinois Team 75 with their full potential, they also created and shared many memorable moments.”
“Brands said, “Eating out with friends, giving presentations, and conversations in the hotel room at night and also selling my candles.”
“Seeing members place was the best part for me as well as meeting new people,” said Armstrong.
“I love meeting new people and I made many new connections during SLC,” Meyers said.
“I loved every last minute of SLC this year, from meeting a group of guys from Lincoln Way East and spending Thursday night with them to eating breakfast with half our chapter at IHOP and McDonalds, and getting to meet my state officer team for the next year finally,” Clodi said.
The students shared many memories as they attended SLC but also they mentioned what SLC had taught them as individuals.
Brands said, “It taught me that even though I’m a Senior and leaving soon, I can mentor the younger FBLA members and help guide them to reach their FBLA goals.”
“That you never know what will happen, given the CEO of FBLA was there and I almost didn’t know,” Armstrong said.
Meyers said, “It taught me that anything I set my mind to can be done well.”
“I was afraid to talk in front of 1,800 people but I did it and I did it well!,” Meyers added.
Clodi said, “It reminded me that in twenty years, the lessons you learned from the people you meet at FBLA Leadership Conferences will matter a lot more than how you perform in your competitive event.”
As they learnt many memorable lessons that will stick with them forever, two MV students are leaving MV FBLA for good, as they graduate and move on in their chapter of life.
Armstrong said, “It is very interesting since it’s my 4th year that I’ve gotten to know all the people and good restaurants.”
Brands said, “I can’t believe my FBLA years have flown by so far.”
Brands added, “I loved every single SLC and will miss them so much.”
