As the Trump Administration ends its first month, how are MV students and staff feeling about the changes implemented so far?
“I think the Trump Administration is changing America to become more isolated from the rest of the world, and I also think that Trump is changing America to be similar to a business,” stated Julia Jee, ‘25.
“ The Trump administration is cleansing our country of the illegal immigrants that the Biden Administration let into our country. He has been in office less than two months and our country has already vastly improved,” asserted Mazie Eilerts, ‘25.
One of the Trump Administration’s biggest changes has been the declaration of a national emergency at the southern border where ICE officials have deported, according to the New York Times, an average of 600 people a day in mid-February.
“(Trump) wants to charge people five million dollars to get a green card and fast track their citizenship status, which means America would get more money but it also means that the people who are poor and he doesn’t want to be in our country won’t be able to fast track their citizenship or green cards, and it makes sense that he set it up this way because he doesn’t want migrants in the US,” claimed Jee.
Another controversial Trump Administration action has been the creation of the Department of Government Efficiency, a.k.a. “DOGE.”
“DOGE is saving the Federal Government approx. $1 billion/day, mostly from stopping the hiring of people into unnecessary positions, deletion of DEI and stopping improper payments to foreign organizations, all consistent with the President’s Executive Orders,” claimed DOGE via the organization’s X account.
“The DOGE committee led by Elon Musk is finding over 500 billion dollars given away to our enemies and other countries for some very inappropriate reasons,” asserted agriculture teacher Mr. John Kabat “As an American, the money will be coming back to Americans and not people who are not Americans. We are all feeling safer in our great Country. Hopefully, our young people in high school can have an America that is for them and not give away our country to other countries,” Mr. Kabat stated.
