The halls of MV have turned festive with Holiday Spirit ’25, presented by Student Council.
The spirit week occurred during the week of December 8th, with a holiday pep rally commencing that Friday on the 12th.
“The student council members participated in a Renaissance Night where we discussed potential themes for the Holiday Spirit week,” stated Mrs. Christi Besant, Student Council advisor.
“The students divided into groups of four to five and were given sheets of paper and markers. Each group came up with an idea for the spirit week theme and the daily spirit week activities. From these ideas, the students chose the best theme and activities,” Mrs. Besant continued.
Dr. VanZandt shared that the members of Student Council have great ideas, but not all of them are able to be picked for the week.
Many of the students participate and dress up for the designated days not only for fun, but because doing so in certain classes can earn them extra credit.
“I think [participation] is going well, but because it’s so easy to participate in,” said Victoria Jackson, ’26.
“I’ve seen a lot of participation from students and staff!” Dr. VanZandt continued.
The surprise pep assembly on Friday marked the end of the spirit week, and the end of the last school week of 2025 before finals.
“In this pep assembly, I hope to see a large number of students who are present to watch and participate,” explained Mrs. Besant.
“We’re focused on more student involvement,” said Dr. VanZandt.
“I hope to see a wide range of students involved, allowing everyone who wants to participate a chance to do so,” Mrs. Besant continued.
The theme for this year’s door decorating contest was “Wacky Tacky Christmas,” with the winning teachers being announced at the pep assembly.
“Committee chose the theme “Wacky Tacky Christmas” and delivered entry forms to all staff,” Dr. VanZandt explained.
“I put a lot of thought and effort into my door,” said Mrs. Karen Slous, who was one of the winning teachers alongside Mrs. Tori Hartman and Mrs. Sara Hale.
“I enter this contest every year and haven’t won, so I really wanted to go all out and put together a winning door this year!” Mrs. Slous continued.
As with every school event, there are many pros and cons that can be done again or improved on for next year.
“I hope that next year can be better with more festive spirit week ideas,” said Jackson.
“I do think we should explore other options for getting the ‘message’ out to students, as many students do not always look in their emails for announcements,” said Mrs. Besant.
“I appreciate all the work the Exec board at Student Council has put into the week!” Dr. VanZandt said.
