Vernois News believes that when entering high school for the first time, one is bound to be filled with nerves. Experiencing a new environment is stressful, especially if one grew up in a significantly smaller school; MV’s large and winding hallways, filled with students and staff, can be overwhelming to those unfamiliar with all the bustling activity.
Another variable of change that one might notice is the abundance of extracurriculars provided here at MV that other schools might not offer. However, change doesn’t have to be bad. Having the opportunity to join all of these different kinds of organizations gives freshmen a chance to make a positive difference in MV. In these clubs, one might gain friendships, find career paths, get scholarships, etc. Going out there, and getting involved, is something that’s constantly drilled into the minds of new students, and the Vernois News believes it to be true. Getting the chance to claim ownership of something important, can really make high school just that much better. In the words of late MV soccer coach Mr. Steve Harrison, “If you’re not involved, why aren’t you involved?”
Another important tip that the Vernois News would like to emphasize for freshmen is the significance of maintaining good grades and attendance. While grades and attendance may not be a top priority when one is young, it’s essential to recognize the long-term impact they can have on one’s high school record.
As one progresses through high school, grades become increasingly important for college applications, scholarships, and future opportunities. For that reason, it is crucial to turn in assignments on time and take thorough notes to assist with one’s learning. Freshmen do, in fact, have the ability to make the world better, one Ram at a time.
