MV conducted a surprise metal detector search for all students on Tuesday, August 22, and most of the student body is wondering why. Usually, Ms. Melvin or Mrs. Miller would stand near the cafeteria doors, tagging a random student out of the ten who would walk through at a time.
This random morning, things changed, as members of the student body walked up to the Changnon Gymnasium entrance confused as to, one, why they were going into these doors, rather than the original cafeteria way, and two, why there was a line of students going out to the preschool area waiting to go in.
The student body was unhappy to say the least, showing up as late as 30 minutes past the first tardy bells ringing, with teachers being just as irritated that their lesson couldn’t go on as scheduled.
We at Vernois News believe in safety just as much as the next, as safety should be a huge priority for the school given the rise in violence inside of schools in the last decade, and this was definitely an efficient way to go about things, but we believe that if it started on the first day of school, or was announced beforehand, things could’ve gone much smoother on just
the first day of this mandatory act.
Metal detectors being used effectively and efficiently was laughed at when first introduced in early 2022, but to see the rocky morning of August 22 turn into a very smooth process throughout the entire morning is a very good sign of the increasing safety inside of MV.
Having a good mindset, and not being annoyed at the little things like a metal detector search made mandatory for your safety, can help ensure smooth and effective school days at MV.
